Prince & Princess Of Wales Hospice and Morplan
Derek Hooper, Area Manager at Morplan Glasgow, worked with Prince & Princess Of Wales Hospice to help them completely refurbish their shop:
" We at the Glasgow store have worked closely with the Prince &Princess of Wales Hospice since I designed their first charity shop 37 years ago. Morplan Glasgow have been delighted to work with the Hospice Retail team over the years ,designing new and refurbing plus supplying all 19 shops .
Assisting Carla with her design of the last four High end shops has been a delight. We hope to be designing and supplying the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice for many more years."
Our regional stores are an important part of the personal touch that we are so proud of, so we asked Carla if she would share what her experience with us was like.

How did you come to work with Morplan?
The hospice has worked with Morplan for many years and are lucky enough to have Derek involved from concept to completion. He’s happy to tweak existing products to fit the shop’s design needs and is always just a phone call away for advice. we ask, and Derek always finds a way to say yes. He’s great at understanding a vision and going the extra mile to make it happen.
What problem or issue were you looking to solve?
The brief for this project was "urban"—a city centre location and our flagship store, so it had to stand out.
The shop, though spacious, was narrower at the front and opened up to a larger area at the back. Since the two areas were separated by a cash desk, we needed to make both spaces work together and feel connected.

Time was also a critical factor, so working closely with Derek—and having complete trust that he would deliver was a huge help.
We wanted the space to have maximum hanging and shelving while still feeling open and airy, with the flexibility to reconfigure the shop floor for events or pop-up fashion shops therefore bespoke rails on castors are built.
Is there something about working with us that stood out to you?
We had commissioned some unique artwork for the shop, which was being hung on the wall between the scaffolding rails. Mark said he had an idea, and we told him to run with it. The next day, we were delighted to see they had built a scaffolding frame for the art—it finished it off brilliantly.
They also cleverly utilised the scaffolding off cuts to create small hanging features.
